What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the biggest retail sales day in the United States and now also in the UK. It’s a chance for customers to save on their upcoming Christmas shopping, as it falls on, or just before, the last payday before Christmas.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday is held each year on the last Friday in November, which is the Friday after Thanksgiving. This year Black Friday is on Friday 29th November 2024.

Do Black Friday deals start at midnight?

No, some Black Friday events may start a day, or a few days before. So it’s best to be signed up for emails from the brands you love, so you’ll hear when their Black Friday offers launch.

When is Cyber Monday?

This year Cyber Monday is on 2nd December 2024. Many retailers will continue their Black Friday discounts or deals over the rest of that weekend and into Monday, known as Cyber Monday.

What is the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

Traditionally Black Friday offers were predominantly for in store, and Cyber Monday more focused to online discounts, however both have now become key dates for offering customers great deals on their shopping.

How does Black Friday work?

Visit the website or stores of your favourite brands and retailers on Black Friday to see what deals they are offering, and how to claim them. You may be emailed details of a discount beforehand, to claim it on Black Friday.

Why is it called Black Friday?

Some reports claim that Black Friday gets its name as it was historically the time of year when retailers' accounts changed from being ‘in the red’ to ‘in the black’, meaning profits were made after an increase in sales following the Thanksgiving period, however this is considered a myth by many. Others believe Black Friday was named Black Friday back in the 1950s after the chaos and extra pressure put on police and emergency services in Philadelphia following a huge rise in tourists and shopping crowds.

How long does Black Friday last?

Traditionally, Black Friday lasts for four days - from the Friday over the weekend, and ending after Cyber Monday. However many retailers today run their Black Friday discounts and deals for longer than this, with some stores and shopping sites starting earlier and finishing later than this.
