Gap UK is proud to partner with Calais Light, a charitable organisation who help refugees in France and the UK, with hot food and vital supplies.
Calais Light's core aim is to run car-sharing convoys, which make it easy and affordable for volunteers to give their time at the weekend, travelling with others across the channel, to help the refugee population in Calais, through organising clothing donations, distributing personal hygiene products and offering general support to those seeking sanctuary.
Our Partnership To Date
Gap first supported Calais Light in November 2022 with a donation of £2000 on Giving Tuesday, and in March 2023 a group of Gap HQ employees joined the convoy to Calais, volunteering their time to help this worthwhile cause.
In addition, Calais Light’s founder Mary Stretch, who is also a humanitarian and former BBC Broadcaster, featured in our empowering Women’s History Month campaign earlier this year, sharing with us her experiences of being a Black woman working in her industry, and the challenges women face today.
Refugee Week Donation
This June, to honour Refugee Week, Gap donated £25,000 worth of new clothing to Calais Light to distribute to the refugees in need, as most arrive with only the clothes on their backs.
Founder Mary commented “Thank you so much to Gap for sponsoring and executing this amazing collaboration with Calais Light and #courtcommerce. Together we have 'honoured refugees' for their losses and given them a degree of personal dignity and choice. We have also helped women and children deal with the changing seasons in this country. Everyone managed to choose 2-3 items each at The Pop Up Shop.”
